DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Director of Development (DOD) is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of LYDIA PATTERSON INSTITUTE’S fundraising including the major gifts program, annual fund, scholarship fund, special events, and capital campaigns. The DOD is responsible for identifying places of internship for students of the Lay Ministry Program and communicate them to the LPI Chaplain. The DOD works closely with the President and the Board of Trustees in all development and fund raising endeavors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must embrace the mission of Lydia Patterson Institute
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills
  • Have knowledge and experience in fund raising techniques, particularly major gift fund raising
  • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and volunteers
  • Have the desire to go out and build external relationships
  • Be a self-starter and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls
  • Be organized and exhibit follow through on tasks and goals
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for the mission of LPI and its students, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability.
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years minimum experience in professional fundraising

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective communications with them
  • Grow a major gifts program
  • Identify and execute grant writing opportunities
  • Direct the annual fund program, including mailings, newsletters, and annual fundraising drives
  • Coordinate and direct major fundraising and special events
  • Do prospective donor research
  • Make public appearances and accept speaking engagements to share information about Lydia Patterson
  • Oversee fundraising database and tracking system
  • Oversee creation of publications to support fund raising activities
  • Demonstrate professional conduct at all times
  • Perform other related duties as requested
